What does it really mean for a home to be modern? And what makes a space feel truly Indian? Too often, design is boxed into styles and categories, but for architect Aman Issar, founder of UnBox Design, the answer lay somewhere in between. When a young couple in Noida reached out to him, their brief was simple yet layered—they wanted a home that felt contemporary and global, but carried the warmth and soul of India.

That vision came to life as Utsav—a home that celebrates craft, culture, and comfort in equal measure.

For the young family, functionality was just as important as aesthetics. The open-plan layout was designed with their growing daughter in mind—a space where she could run around freely, where furniture could be moved to make more room for play, and where the family could come together without walls cutting them off from one another. The house feels alive, adaptable, and responsive to the rhythm of daily life.

The child’s bedroom is perhaps the most magical corner of the house. Conceived as a little wonderland, it features a playful two-level bed that doubles as an adventure zone and a cozy retreat. Clever storage keeps the room organized yet playful, creating a world that can grow with the child and spark her imagination every day.

Craftsmanship plays a starring role throughout the home. Carved wooden shutters bring in the charm of tradition, Okhai fabrics framed within glass shutters celebrate India’s textile heritage, and terracotta murals depicting Krishna’s folk tales add a soulful, earthy layer. Balanced with pops of bright color, natural light, and textured finishes, the house feels both young and timeless.

More than just a residence, Utsav is a celebration—of heritage, of creativity, and of family life. It reminds us that Indian design isn’t about choosing between the modern and the traditional. It’s about weaving them together into something personal, meaningful, and lasting.
